Minutes of OTFC Mtg 1/6/00

OTFC is performing well. Several overseas requests completed successfully. No problems or questions have been reported to the archive hot seat.

There have been cases where a File Not Processed message was returned in the DADS email responses to Grace and Steve. It is not clear what caused these problems and why they surfaced during the vacation period. If this happens again, Warren will track down the circumstances.

ACTION ITEM: Steve is to include an item in the OTFC user instructions to re-request data when a File Not Processed message is received.

There is a DADS problem with using offline platters in the test pipe. It has been fixed in the code, but not tested or installed. It will be installed as part of DADS 8.01 next Tuesday. The test pipe will not be used until then.

Some datasets were reprocessed and reingested by DADS. The globrate keyword values were fixed for those datasets as part of that processing.

ACTION ITEM: Lisa will deactivate the keyword repair entries for globrate on the appropriate datasets.

Datasets having CALIBRAT set to F will be added to the bypass calibration table. At some later date, these datasets will be tested to see whether they currently can calibrate. If so, keyword repair entries will be added to change CALIBRAT to T.

ACTION ITEM: Lisa is to add the entries to the bypass calibration table. There remain problems in determining which STIS datasets cannot be calibrated. In some cases, the rules will set all switch values to OMIT and thereby have the same effect as having CALIBRAT set to F. The STIS group may change this procedure.

The NICMOS group is preparing to include an automated means of handling the pedestal correction. In addition, many of the reference files that were used to produce calibrated data in the archive are outdated. Consequently, we should begin consideration of OTFR for NICMOS. The group plans to have a better idea about their plans in about 1 month.

There should be a link to the OTFC info from the Web interface and a statement of the URL on the Starview request screen.

ACTION ITEM: Megan will ask that this be done.

The design of the OTFC statistics table is complete for now. It will be redesigned in the future as part of the new DADS. The OTFC table tracks performance info at the level of individual datasets, rather than at the user request level as DADS does. The OTFC table contains foreign keys to the DADS tracking tables, so that information can be combined. In particular, it is possible to determined the FTP transfer times between DADS and OTFC and from DADS to the user. In addition, dataset sizes, file counts, calibration times will be stored for each dataset.

ACTION ITEM: Lisa will build the table according to DADS conventions. Mike will build the scripts to populate the table.
