Minutes of OTFC Mtg 1/14/99

Starview & DADS (Allen Farris & Warren King) - DADS 7.81 was installed on Jan 12 with the quick fixes for OTFC. This fixed the unique request naming.

  • FITS files appear in the DADS staging directory with unexpected file naming. The files are named as xxxx.extension, rather than xxxx_extension.FITS

    Action Item: Allen will investigate.

The operational DADS system is now available for OTFC.

OPUS (Mike Swam) - A calibration pipeline is ready on artichoke.

getref/upref (Bernie Simon) - These tools are now working on Digital UNIX (whaler)

    Open issues:

  • Handling of ACS/NICMOS associations
  • Determining the appropriate subset of possible reference file names that should be put in a data header for a given type of observation. Currently, getref/upref will put all types of reference files in the header, whether or not they are appropriate. This no harm in processing, but could cause confusion to a user. Eventually Bestref will populate such values with N/A and getref will not list them. This is an issue for STIS.
  • Support for inserting keywords in appropriate places in STIS headers. A scheme has been devised to do this, but it requires a complex query.

Action Item: Ed and Lisa will investigate an easier query mechanism, possibly using a new table.

Change System (Lisa Gardner, Steve Lubow, & Bernie Shiao) - The database and Bestref changes for OTFC were installed in DADS 7.8. The data are being copied nightly from CATLOG to ZEPPO.

Scripts are handling the updating of the internal test system on ZEPPO to emulate the automated change system.

STIS (Bernie Shiao, Ron Downes, Melissa McGrath) - Ed and Bernie Shiao are working on the list of proposed modifications to the headers (via the otfc_keyword_repair table). Queries have been written to handle all but one of the list of changes (involving NCOMBINE).

A problem with WAVECALS is that not all keywords are in the database. S. Lubow sent out an email message describing the various options for determining the switches for WAVECALS. The consensus was that the switch rules should be rewritten so that WAVECALS are handled by different set of rules from the science data. We need to verify that such a split would be possible.
