Minutes of OTFC Mtg 11/11/99

Hardware installation (Lynn and Valerie) - The installation is proceeding on schedule for Nov 19.

DADS (Warren King) - The DADS release 8.0 was installed with the fix for informing users about failed calibration requests. We ought to check this on a data request.

STIS (Melissa and Grace) - There are some outstanding keyword repair problems being worked on with Ed, Bernie Shiao, and Lisa.

Change System (Lisa) - Lisa is currently running the change system on the operational DADS catalog to populate Bestswitch value for STIS. She will run Bestswitch and Bestref on Monday for WFPC2 on datasets having no keyword repairs and will then do that for STIS. In the case of STIS, there are about 14,000 datasets with no keyword repairs out of a total of 30,000 datasets. When the system goes operational, the remaining datasets will be run through the change system, including keyword repair changes. Lisa will be away at the time of release. Bernie Shiao will handle this.

OPUS procedures - A splinter group (Ed, Steve, and Daryl) met with Sid to discuss the details of handling initial pipeline calibration problems in the OTFC and OTFR era. Sid never modifies keywords outside the primary header. In nearly all cases, the modifications involve setting CALIBRAT to NO or setting switch values to OMIT. For the OTFC release in Dec, Sid will issue ARCH OPRS that list changes he makes on sets of data. The ARCH group will need to recognize when a keyword repair can be made to allow calibration to proceed. Until the time that a fix is entered in the keyword repair table or a needed reference file is delivered, the data may fail calibration in OTFC if a switch was set to OMIT. The reason is that Bestswitch will reset the value to PERFORM. This problem will occur only for new, propertary data. So few people should be aware of the problem. For OTFR, the OPUS pipeline may use a keyword repair table like the current one to track such changes. The keyword repairs can be added to the pipeline just after the FITS file is constructed and before calibration. It would be useful to have a tool to allow Sid to enter these problems into the keyword repair table. There are 93 STIS datasets with CALIBRAT set to NO and 3 for WFPC2, according to the DADS catalog. Some of these may be able to go through calibration now. Others will need to be in the OTFR keyword repair table to retain the CALIBRAT value. Sid is going to see whether there are problem datasets from his notes. The OTFR keyword repair table will have to handle other keyword changes such as pointing changes. Damaged POD files will be repaired and rearchived to supersede the original.
