Minutes of OTFC Mtg 9/24/98

Starview & DADS (Allen Farris & Warren King) -

The problem in the translation of logicals is fixed. Data can now be retrieved from DADS. The problem now is the interface between DADS and OPUS. File transfer will use FTP, rather than a shared disk, as was planned.

We expect the OTFC version of DADS will be installed in the operational system in about 3 weeks. This will include database changes for the internal test.

Action Item: Megan will talk to Bruce Mayhew about setting up a separate screen for wfpc2-otfc. Megan is working on the screen design. This screen will display the last-change dates of parameters and software for each dataset.

Steve asked whether there was an easy way to determine the date of calibration that can be used to compare with the last-change dates. Daryl determined the keyword name for the calibration date is DATE in the calibrated header. This can be gotten from the iraf command hselect: e.g., hselect *cal*[0] $I,date yes or hselect *cal*[0] $I,date 'date > "13/03/97"' In the latter case, only datasets with dates after March 13, 1997 will be listed.

OPUS (Mike Swam) - All active wfpc2 the reference files are have been converted to GEIS and are in the wfpc2 cache. The files are on both artichoke and whaler.

getref/upref (Bernie Simon) -

Mike reported 2 problems with getref which were fixed in a new release of getref/upref. A remaining problem is with whaler, due to a symbolic link for IRAF that needs to be defined.

Open issues:

  • Handling of NICMOS associations
  • Determining the appropriate subset of possible reference file names that should be put in a dataset for a given type of observation. Currently, getref/upref will put all types of reference files in the header, whether or not they are appropriate. This no harm in processing, but could cause confusion to a user. Eventually bestref will populate such values with N/A and getref will not list them. This is an issue for STIS.

Change System (Lisa Gardner & Steve Lubow) -

Revised from last week: We have developed a plan to keep the test phase 0 system up to date. The goal is to make the system to be useful to internal users by having recent datasets and reference file available. It appears possible to do this by

    1. changing the wfpc2 ref table in dadsops to match the new design for otfc
    2. running bestswitch in dadsops
    3. nightly dumping the operational version of the dads database and using it to rebuild an otfc database
    4. repopulating the okr and obc tables
    5. running an sql script that updates the dads tables for dads changes and runs bestref and bestswitch on the datasets in the okr.

Action Item: Steve to develop a test suite for CDBS changes that affect bestref. Done

Action Item: Steve to add to check_cdbs a test for null otfc dates on past deliveries. Done

Action Item: Bestref changes for otfc need to be made soon. Bernie Shiao is doing this.

wfpc2 (Sylvia Baggett) - Datasets are being selected and tested for the regression test. So far 46 have been identified and run through the OTFC calibration pipeline. They have been checked by the wfpc2 group to be correct. About 20 more datasets are being identified.

hardware (Joe Pollizzi) - A small system will be pulled together for the internal test using existing hardware.
